1. Introduction
Drink Test Strips are designed to provide a quick, supportive indication of whether a beverage contains sugar. They are intended only as a supplementary tool to existing methods for determining if a drink is a full‑sugar product.
These strips are not a substitute for laboratory analysis, manufacturing controls, or regulatory testing. Please read this instruction booklet carefully before using.
2. Intended Use
Suitable for testing most non‑alcoholic, non‑dairy drinks such as:
• Soft drinks
• Juices (without added milk or alcohol)
• Flavoured waters
• Sports and energy drinks (without milk)
3. Important Restrictions
The strips must not be used with:
• Drinks containing high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which may be present in some imported drinks.
• Milk‑based drinks, including shakes, smoothies with milk, or dairy blends.
• Alcoholic beverages.
Using the strips with the above products can lead to inaccurate or unreliable results.
4. Storage and Handling
Store strips between 2 and 30 degrees celsius, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Isolate strips from damp, light and high temperatures. Keep the packaging sealed when not in use.
Do not touch the reagent pad directly with fingers. Do not use strips past their expiry date.
5. How to Use the Test Strips
1) Preparation: Ensure the drink does not contain HFCS, milk, or alcohol. Check that the strips are in date. Ensure hands are dry.
2) Test using the strip:
Insert a drinking straw into your drink. Hold the test strip in your left hand. Occlude the exposed end of the straw with a finger. Remove the straw and drop some of the drink onto the strip.
3) Wait for reaction: Hold strip horizontally to prevent mixing of the test areas. Wait for the reaction time specified (between 30 and 60 seconds).
4) Compare the result: Match the colour of the reagent pad to the colour chart on the packaging. Note indicated sugar content.
6. Interpreting Results
The colour change provides a qualitative indication of sugar presence. A positive result does not guarantee high sugar levels; it only suggests the presence of detectable sugars. A negative result does not guarantee absence of sugar, especially in drinks where restrictions apply or where non‑detectable sugars may be present.
Changes in colour that appear only along the edges of the test pads or after more than 2 minutes have passed are not significant. If in doubt err on the side of caution.
7. Limitations
These strips detect only certain types of sugar and may not react to all sweeteners. HFCS and certain complex matrices (e.g., dairy, alcohol) can interfere with test chemistry, leading to false readings. Temperature, pH, and carbonation may influence the reaction. Strips are intended only as an additional verification step, not a standalone diagnostic tool. Comparison with the colour chart is dependent on interpretation by the individual. It is recommended that those with colour blindness do not use the strips.
8. Safety Information
The strips are safe for handling but are have not been tested as food contact safe. Avoid contact with eyes or mouth. Dispose of used strips in general waste. This product is not a medical device.
9. Troubleshooting
If results are unclear, verify the drink meets the intended use, confirm storage conditions, and repeat with a fresh strip. If issues persist, contact support.
